About the Artists

Metal Mosaic Artists is what one could call them.

Over the past 6 years, Hilke Thor Straten and Morten Keese have decided to be and to create together. Inspired by whatever materials cross their way, the couple unites rooms, spaces, and locations with their magical materials and techniques.

“We transform, puzzle, and improvise with what is given.”

MetalArt + MirrorMosaics is what they name their creations that they manifest in their atelier in Nordfriesland, the perfect base to show and make art for the world. The 'exhibition space' entails a 160 m2 space, a mobile Trailer showroom, and 2 firetrucks displaying the possibilities of their exquisite creations.

The artworks and images speak for themselves, and the best way is undoubtedly to experience the art live to inspire oneself. For the artists can only provide an idea and momentary glimpse into their world full of hope, creation, light, and reflections. The viewer is welcome to partake in the path to bring more color into their worlds.

Morten Keese

Morten's element is fire, and his main medium is metal and steel structures. With many years building and training as a blacksmith, these varied experiences have formed Morten's personality and gave him another frame to develop his artistic creation through his MetalArt

He started off with very detailed wooden frames, which were the key to opening up further doorways in this craft. By taking time and combining technical skills with creativity, Morten's ideas and spectrum is blooming.

In his collaborations with Hilke, his frames hold her colored glasses and mirrors together, thus providing an essential part in the structure. To have the steel and glass intertwined, contrasting, and complementing is a perfect symbiosis.

Morten, is like a pure artistic soul, is an autodidact, and does not fit into any box.

“Since we met, my life completely changed into something exciting and creative. Now I can call myself an artist. It took quite some time, even years, but now we are ready to show what we have been working on so intensely.”
